ㅋㅋㅋ is basically the Korean cousin of “haha” or “lol.” It comes from the sound 크크크 (keu-keu-keu), a kind of chuckling laugh.

But the number of ㅋs matters more than you might expect.

So, How Many Should You Use?

• ㅋ — “heh” or possibly “I’m judging you”
• ㅋㅋ — small laugh
• ㅋㅋㅋ — normal friendly laugh
• ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ — genuinely hilarious
• ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ — either comedy gold or your friend fell asleep on the keyboard
